What this means

Your home page has a <title> element and its text is between 30 and 60 characters. That is long enough to say what the product is and include the brand, and short enough that search engines show it in full. Failing means the tag is missing, empty, or its text is outside that range.

How we test it

We fetch your home page the way a browser does, following at most 3 redirects, and parse the HTML. We read the text of the <title> element in the <head> and count its characters after trimming whitespace. A length of 30 to 60 passes; a missing or empty title fails; a title outside the range fails and we report the length.

Why it matters

The title is the search result. It is the link text a searcher reads before deciding whether to click, and it is what browsers show on the tab and in bookmarks. Too short and it says nothing about you; too long and the engine cuts it off mid-sentence. The Fix Kit makes title length a rule in its per-page audit because every page in the sitemap has one and it is the first thing a searcher sees.

The fix

Edit the <title> element in the <head> of the home page so it reads 30 to 60 characters including the brand (on a static site that is the page or the shared head partial; on Next.js it is title in the route's generateMetadata or static metadata object). Then run node scripts/seo-audit.mjs https://YOUR_DOMAIN/sitemap.xml, which prints the length of every title that is out of range and exits non-zero until all pages pass.
